ALL APPLICATIONS DELIVERED USING WEB-SERVICES ARE NOT SAAS
It may seem that software applications delivered using web-services is SaaS. But that is notcorrect. A hosted application can only be treated as SaaS if that holds the basic attributes ofcloud computing model. Apart from having rapid elasticity in the capability and on-demandself-service facility, it has to be a measured service.In this context, theApplication Service Provider (ASP) model that appeared in the late1990s can be mentioned. InASP model, the applications are also delivered through web. Butthat cannot be termed as Software-as-a-Service offering. Rather SaaS has been extended withthe idea provided by the ASP model
ASP model of the 1990s was the first attempt for Internet-delivery of software but comparativelyit was more similar to the traditional application model than the SaaS model.
